A 444 mile EV road trip

March 27, 2015 - Activities

Planning a 444 mile EV road trip !

So the time has come folks for me to test out the rapid charging infrastructure in the UK with an EV road trip.

Inspired by Mr Robert Llewellyn who did London to Edinburgh in Jan 2014 in a Nissan Leaf, I’m ready for the challenge !

On Tuesday the 31st March I will set out from Leicester to deliver a Citroen C-zero to a London customer.

This is a distance of 98 miles , easy in an EV with just 1 rapid charge stop required to make it comfortably.

I then plan to then collect a Nissan Leaf from Chelmsford and return to Leicestershire, a total of 128 miles, again easy with 2 rapid charges along the M1 corridor.20150327_180234

The real test begins

After an overnight stay at my Continue reading A 444 mile EV road trip.

Orkney Electric Vehicle show

We’re getting really excited here on the beautiful Islands of Orkney about an Electric vehicle show.

WHY ? I hear you ask !

Well on April the 17th 2015 we have EV advocate and all round nice guy Mr Robert Llewellyn visiting Orkney for an Orkney EV show.

 Mr Robert Llewellyn

Robert Llewellyn '14 ev car show Orkney

As part of his brilliant you tube channel ‘Fully Charged’ Robert is traveling up to Aberdeen from Oxford in a BMW i8 Hybrid & then thanks to support from Northlink ferries, he arrives on Orkney.

Robert’s had an Orkney visit on his ‘must do list’ for a while as he keeps reading of all the great renewable things happening on Orkney.

Friday morning we will showcase Orkney to Robert and capture for his program all the renewable developments that have resulted in 104% of all electricity in 2014 being from renewables.

Yes Orkney could not use all the electricity it made in 2014, electric cars will soak up this excess energy thus removing a number of fossil fueled vehicles from the islands

Mitsubishi phev outlander review

Outlander road tripIMG_5969

This week Ive been driving the great Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

“What is that ?” PHEV stands for Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle.

This is the worlds first PHEV 4×4 and I’m very impressed with it.

It is powered by wind ,but more about that later !

So lets get started with my mitsubishi phev outlander review.

First it has a EV range of 30 miles , then the 2.0 petrol engine will power the wheels and also charge the battery if required. Like a Prius with the engine ‘on’ it cuts in and out as and when the power is needed ,seamlessly.

Getting the best range in electric cars

How to Consistently get the best range in electric cars

Nissan Leaf Dashboard - the best range in electric carsDriving style and driving conditions will impact the total driving range of the car,as we all want to be getting the best range in electric cars.

The average advertised range of the Nissan Leaf is 84 miles. While it is not every day that we find ourselves needing to go that far, I have on many occasions exceed 100 miles of range on a single charge in the Leaf. This is verified by actually driving more than 100 miles on a single charge. My wife who is also mastering the range extending driving techniques, has me beat with 112 miles on a single charge.

Here is a collection of vehicle settings and driving techniques so you too can achieve over 100
miles of consistent driving range, in your Nissan Leaf or any electric car to get best range in electric cars
Charge Battery to 100%: Continue reading Getting the best range in electric cars.

Range Anxiety in an Electric car

November 21, 2014 - Electric Cars

Range Anxiety“Well that’s another fine mess you’ve got us into ” – Range Anxiety in an Electric car !

As a retailer of new and used electric vehicles, I spend a fair bit of time following press on electric vehicles (EVs). I see stuff that’s pro-EV, anti-EV, and neutral. I see some good stuff, but a lot of poorly researched as well.

One thing that really bugs me is stories talking about the “huge disadvantage” EVs have in charging time and that “People don’t want to wait hours and hours for their cars to charge.”

Stories like that create what I call “range anxiety anxiety”. Range anxiety is an infrequent thing, but people unfamiliar with electric cars read articles hyping short range and long charge times and they develop anxiety that they’d have range anxiety if they owned an EV. What Eco-Cars have been up to

October 3, 2014 - Activities, New Electric Cars

Sales Of ev’s continues to rise. Eco cars is a business set up 10 years ago to specialize in eco friendly ,lpg and hybrid vehicles, and more recently 100% electric cars and vans. We now have more inquires for EV’s than any other vehicles.

Last Month with the help of Nissan and fleetdrive , we took a Nissan Leaf to the Orkney Islands for a week of free test drives. The response was amazing with 63 test drives in 6 days completed…and the Leaf was sold that week too to an Islander ! Continue reading What Eco-Cars have been up to.
